Without passion, design might meet basic functional standards but lacks the soul that characterizes great work - that's because design is a hard thing and requires sacrifice, sacrifice of your time, your thought and your energy; a soul sacrifice of sorts. Therefore, passion is indeed a very strong driving force that compels designers to go beyond the ordinary, to innovate, and to overcome challenges, another force is self-respect, and for some, could even be money. For me, passion is one of the main ingredients that fuels late-night brainstorming sessions, relentless prototyping, and the pursuit of perfection.
