Beauty is not the target of design, it has never been, however, it is for sure a second target of design, it has always been; because designs are made to solve problems, for example a chair solves the problem of sitting, a pen, solves the problem of writing, but a solution can be elegant or ugly, mathematicians know it, physicians know it, chemists know it and designers for sure know it very well. Designers do seek the beauty, because elegance is part of design, because people who consume design also gets satisfaction and utility from beauty, design is always about aesthetics but never directly about aesthetics, it solves the problem first, and then tries to ensure that the solution is elegant, beautiful, aesthetic, efficient, and kind.
