It is true that the true needs of people are not often expressed or even known; to want something particular we need to know if it's existence however the feeling of need might exist even without knowing what we needed; designers must tap into the needs of people, the basic desires, the basic needs, the drivers to find out new products and projects that could satisfy the needs of people by offering them new wants to be wanted.
