Onur Cobanli explains:
Some people wait ideas to come to them, for me they look like fisherman in the desert without the hook and the bait but trying to catch the largest fish. Ideas rarely jump to you out of nowhere, you must go search them, and you must make yourself available to them; you must make the background conditions favourable; if you want to fish the largest fish, then you get a hook, get the bait and go to wherever there are big fish. Likewise, if you want to come up with great ideas, you go to where there are great design ideas; great design ideas will come to you while you design things; your sea, your ocean, your river is your design flow process; when you are in the zone, when you are obsessively designing, that’s when you are most open to random sparks and creativity; if you want to have more creativity, you need to stay more in the zone, and to stay more in the zone, you need to design often. Each time you design, you have a chance of coming up with a mistake, a random variation or mutation that will be later interpreted as a genius, if it works. The more you design, the more happy mistakes, successful variations or beneficial mutations you will have; the more people think you as creative; and make no mistake you will be more creative, it is okay to acknowledge that some creativity only comes from hard work and diligence; to catch the biggest fish, you will most likely have to catch many fish. Replace fish example with anything that needs practice to be perfect, design needs practice to perfect, and this practice sessions help you tap into cosmic creativity, to channel creativity, or simply to get lucky because you try a lot.
