For me a design is similar to a scientific theory, not a scientific law but a theory; you start with a hypothesis that the design you create will solve an existing or future problem; you design your design with an aim, it is similar to how you solve a problem, then you have a design solution, that design solution is your theory; your proposal, and like any other theory unless proven to be a law, your design is open to dispute and discussion, if it is not open to dispute and discussion then it is not a design but a work of art, that’s because design is objective while art is subjective.
