Industrial design is about selling to the masses; millions and billions of products, to millions and billions of people. People are varied, people have varied needs, people have varied desires and people definitely have varied uses of the same product. Example: Of course you do not need to consider a chair as a stair; a chair is for seating, but also think that many customers might indeed one day stand on it to reach something higher, so make it steady, make it strong, the example could perhaps not be relevant in future when we fly, but then, when we fly, there will be even more examples.
